Company History
Varial Surfing Technologies was founded in Santa Barbara by surfer Edison Conner, who became frustrated with the poor engineering of polyurethane boards. He and his friends were constantly dinging and breaking boards. Mr. Conner, who studied
Materials Science and Engineering
at the University of Pennsylvania set out to solve this problem.
Varial's first funding was awarded by the Wharton Venture Initiation Program, an academic program designed to foster early stage companies. Since January 2005 the company's development has been closely advised by Mr. Daniel Gomez, Founder and Principal of the GGN Consulting Group in Wayne, PA. The Venture Initiation Program granted Varial two separate Snider Seed Awards to fund research into the performance characteristics of the competitors' product offerings. Additional financial support was provided by the Weiss Tech House through a fund to support student innovation.
Varial is currently working closely with local Southern California shapers and surfers to perfect a prototype and launch national sales of their surfboards. Varial will be seeking a major round of funding to support its growth.
